Well, I didn't get in as a freshman, even though I had a 31 on my ACT, 3.62 GPA, and went to a private high school. I turned my application in on September 15, the day admissions opened. After I was admitted this past year as a transfer student, the admissions department informed me that I must have "fallen through the cracks". Basically, be extremely proactive. If you really want to get in, get on the phone, write letters, and save yourself your time - they do not respond to emails. Good luck!
I didn't really try too hard in high schoolOct 30 2005Undecided
I didn't really try too hard in high school so my 3.41 GPA wasn't too impressive for UW-Madison even being in-state. I got 29 on the ACT and was promptly waitlisted. I then created a sheet with reasons that they like (copied from their own website). I listed all the realtives of mine who attended in my family (5 in previous 2 generations both none were my parents), trend of GPA increasing (jumped class rank from 107 to 66 in 3 semesters), leadership roles (class VP for 2 years), and other things. I was then accepted the last day possible. So yeah, have better statistics than me and you have a great chance getting in.
